I am having difficulty finding the ideal sheeting angle for a new 110 Jib. My Oday 23 has two options for the jib/genoa sheet leads. The first is a fixed block on the deck, that I use for the working jib that came standard with the boat. The second option is a track with sliding block located on the toe rail aft. This is where I sheet the 150 genoa. The problem I am having with the 110 is that the forward attachment point seems too far forward for good sail shape and the track seems too far aft. Is there a way to determine the optimum jib sheet attachment point on the deck based on the cut of the sail? I am thinking of replacing the forward block with a short piece of track that I could use for my smaller head sails and the 110 (but I hate drilling holes in my deck). Any suggestions?

I agree with installing a short track for the headsail or you can increase the length of the
existing one enough to allow you the length for the jib as well. I've never installed a track and I'm not sure if I were doing it from scratch that I would know how far forward to extend it so as to serve the 110 jib for various winds,...but a sailmaker should be able to help you..I know that the Doyle loft in Marblehead, MA helped me with that when I was having my 130 headsail repaired and re-stiched...and a new sun-cover installed as the tracks on a 272 are pretty short too, but mine ended up being fine according to Doyle. Just a thought. Patrick

I've been told (or have read) that the proper jib sheeting angle is such that an imaginary line through clew will intersect the luff of the jib in the middle of the luff. Track should be positioned so that whatever you have (fairlead, turning block, etc...) can be attached to the track at that point...
Depending on what angle you are sailing to the wind, this location could/should change to have best sailshape (close hauled vs running will produce different sail shapes and a different intersection point with luff).

That is the same formula or drawing that Doyle sent me when they were going to be working on my 130 genoa...
Thanks folks. Any tips for mounting that track? How do I keep from crushing the deck when I tighten down the fasteners and how large must the backing plates be? My thought is to remove the single forward block and use that as the starting location for the track, extending aft from there.
