SEADANCE

Oh Boys!!! :) :) :) This is the first boat we looked at a few weeks ago and offered on but was turned down. We re-countered again and offer accepted today at $9750. She needs work as far as replacing the cushions, needs an autopilot and a/c but she is goegerous. Her pictures on this website don't bring out her charm. Sea Trialing her this week and all that jazz and bringing her home as soon as we can. Tukki Bird is a name we have not called our daughter sincer she was born 10 years ago and found this name to be a good sign. http://www.flagshipyachts.com/sailboats.htm

Congrats

You did it and she looks like a good boat at a good price. Let us know how the survey goes. Bob W. One does get the boat pretty well fixxed up after 10 years and that is when you sell and start over.

Keep posting

Seadance, Keep posting with your progress as you go. I am sure you are aware that there is a lot of knowledge among members of this board. Someone, has been there, done that, no matter what kind of problems you run into. And also post up when you get it out in Mobile Bay, Mississippi Sound and surrounding areas. Several of us on here from this area. I will consider it an honor to sit in your/my cockpit some evening and have a cool one.

The Hunter?

did you look at the 30' Pearson 30 1982 US$ 15,000 S U S D FG Slidell, LA, She looked really clean. I think the Hunter is kind of old! 1978 is a long time ago. It is going to be hard to get parts for that boat. You put your money up and take your changes. Good luck!

Sorry Waffle you've be hitting the syrup too much.

The Hunter the author of this post is talking about is a 1998 Hunter 280. However, is that a broken wing keel I see? Or just a extra part?

It's the Hunter 30

Seadance clearly has stated which boat they bought twice. Best of luck to them! Good old boats

Hey Waffle, you need to get a few copies of "Good Old Boat" and see what can be done with an old boat. There are MANY 30-40 year old sailboats still in use. My 1978 Hunter 27 hull and deck is just fine as is the standing rigging. I can buy replacement port lights, interior lights, bow lights, sails and just about anything else you can think of. The only thing I have to be concerned over is the old Yanmar SB8 diesel, but those things last forever. According to the local Yanmar folks, I can still get almost any part for it. If it gives up the ghost completely, I'll just look for a newer Yanmar that was swapped out in an engine upgrade or pay $7K for a brand new one installed. Worse case is I hang an outboard off the transom (not my preference). Of course I could have paid $50-60K for a new Hunter 27, and it would be nice and shiny, but I have better things to do with my money. I see dozens of new and almost new boats at my marina that are nothing but Dock Queens. My boat goes out almost every weekend and she's never let me down.

Waffle, What is wrong with old? Many of us are

getting to the age where we are needing some repairs. The Drs. don't often send out for parts they just make do with what they have and we keep on ticking. You can look at the pictures I have posted of Bietzpadlin and see that calender age is without merit. Buy an old but servicable boat for ten thousand and with your own hand make ten thousand dollars material cost for improvements and you have a far better boat than you could buy for the twenty grand.
