Shaved off keel on 22

It was suggested that because my keel only measures 17-18 " instead of the 23" that the previous owner may have shaved some off.I would imagine that would have been done for trailering? How can this affect the performance of the boat and what kind of things should I watch for. This is my first boat and actually my first year of sailing.  We sail in the Pacific Northwest.Tina

Hey Tina, My 22's keel only measures 18 in. also. I think the other mearsurement is for the total draft of the boat. This is my first boat and first summer sailing to. Let me know any questions about your 22 and maybe I can help. I have all the manuals that came with my boat new.

steve-If you have access to a scanner and are able to scan a copy of the manual, I'd love to get a copy. The manual that's online here seems to be for the later models with the centerboard keel. I'm interested to know if the older manual shows any interesting information specific to our boats.Like the both of you, this is also my first boat and first year of sailing (I own a '72 model)...Thanks
