While reading all the recent posts/complaints/issues with the shallow sumps on many of our boats, I got to thinking (ouch) why wouldn't this work: 1. Plug hole to bilge 2. Hose with strainer laid in sump (you know, the really flat strainer type) 3. Extra bilge pump on deck/mounting next to head (or under sink or other out-of-the-way place) 4. Check valve for backward flow reduction 5. To something overboard 6. Switch on shower control lever on faucet combined with pressure switch on water supply to same faucet (When "up" and "on" it turns additional bilge/sump pump on. When "down" and/or "off" pump does not run. This eliminates need for float switch which usually requires 1.5 to 2" of water to float.) 7. After shower, lift grate and clean tiny sump area or simply flush with fresh water from the shower head. Option 2: Same as steps 1-5 above 6. Use manual whale gusher mounted to bulkhead. That gives one hand for the shower head and one for the sump pump!! :) Thoughts?
