Shaft zinc substitute

This winter, for the first time, I am leaving my boat in the water. I didn't have time to replace/check the zincs on the shaft before the water got cold. In the interim, while waiting for warmer water, I attached a device to the shaft. This is a zinc "fish" which is hung in the water over the side of the boat. The "fish's tail" is a conductor with a clip on the distant end, which I have clipped to my shaft inside the boat. I did a continuity test from the fish to the shaft and found it positive (i.e. good connection.) My question is....is this sufficient protection for my shaft until I dive and replace the zincs this spring?

zinc fish

Rich, For what it is worth I think the zinc fish is an execellent idea and should give you plenty of protection. Good idea to connect it to the shaft! Will be watching to see what others have to say!
