I just noticed the other day that while under way (sails only), the shaft turning. Is this normal? Will it cause any damage to the tranmission? Should I prevent the shaft from turning and if so, how? Thanks.
This topic has been discussed "ad infinitum" on this site before. The general consensus has been to put the trans into reverse while sailing to stop the spinning and vibration. The "freewheeling" of the prop has been known to put wear-and-tear on the transmission.
