I installed a new shaft log in my 84 H27 a few years ago. The bronze had begun to crumble. Here are some pics of the old one:

The shaft log is installed on the outside of the hull and through bolted to the inside. Yours is probably done the same way but has 4 bolts instead of 2.

Here is a pic of the new Buck Algonquin log that I installed. Not sure if they make a 4-bolt version.

Heritage, I tried to find a new one to match mine, like yours, a year ago from anywhere/everywhere.
No luck.
Was about to go have one made when I found an original from a salvaged/parted out H30C.
If you find a source for the original (New Old Stock laying around in a bin somewhere) and they have two,
PLEASE contact me with a PM or an updated post to this thread or a smoke signal!
Good luck and thanks in advance.

G, here is a link to the shaft log. Buck Algonquin calls it a sailboat stern tube. They also have a longer version that protrudes more into the engine bay.

Yes, I saw those last year, but they are not a "plug and play" match.
Somewhere there is one sitting in a bin, just waiting to be found and rescued
from the scrap heap. I just don't know how to find it.

I see,,, you also have the 4-hole version. Hunter must have gone to the 2-holer in their later year cherubinis.

That was lucky. I needed to replace mine a few years ago and had to have one machined by a local shop. It was the two hole design.

Thanks everyone! Thanks Heritage for your pictures. It made me realize my problem so I found what was missing in my setup. Actually, the "stern tube" was inverted. Someone put it the wrong way into the hole (from inside instead from outside). Problem solved, for now...

Sergio, I'm glad you've got it sorted.
I should have noticed that 'reversal' in the pics.
I'm just not myself these days, sitting around waiting to leave.
Wondering when the world will open up,
and finding more and more projects that I had put off until...
Oh crap, there's another mystery water leak! :banghead:
Gotta go.
