i think i saw a segment on this by Mailsail...the best i can remember you have to use a two or three jaw bearing puller to get it off as it is a press fit...i also think i saw where that may not work if it has grown to the shaft....i do know when i took mine off i had to cut it off and will be replacing it with a new coupling flange...but i havent made up my mind if i am going to use a soild one again or the split one...hope this helps...search compass marine and you may find the atrical on this subject.....Trying to install a shaft seal. I have the coupling un-bolted from the transmission but cannot get the shaft out of the flange. I have loosened the shaft key but can't get the flange to budge off the shaft. Anyone have a experience with this?
An old trick but smaller transmissions have flanges light enough that you can bend them this way. You won't see it until you try to align the engine and are working with .001 feeler gauges.Using a socket between the flanges, placed on the shaft end, and then use longer bolts and nuts to force things apart.
