Shaft seals and prop

Good morning Don,

Well no epoxy in the shaft...YAHOO!. No motor either...LOL. I am stripping the hull as we speak and no nastys , no cracks, no blisters nothing. Good news for me. I was only after the hull when I brought this boat, so far all is good. Buying a boat from your area, one never knows if the boat rolled around on the beach for a few hours in one of the big blows. The boat was gutted inside, which I am guessing was all old stuff anyway and I would pull and replace with 2013 stuff. The guy I bought it from painted the bottom a dark brown, not the best paint job in the world...LOL. It had blue, green, red and the brown bottom paints. So removing all this stuff is taking a little time. One of the coats has turned to power, and the last coating pee-ed off in 75% of the hull. so that helped. Stern tube did have a plate, so not sure if this is your buddies boat or not? I think the V2761 is the number, didn't have my glasses on when I looked...LOL.Don, send me a few
pictures, let's see if this is your buddies boat.
Larry

I am thinking he changed the name. A few more questions if you don't mind, black bottom paint and a laminated cureved tiller. If it is the boat I am thinking of a friend bought it in 1985, I bought my Albin 7.9 in 1986, over the next 20 years we sailed both boats in the area. I think it was in 2004 when I helped him pull the engine after unsuccessfully trying to unseize the Volvo. It had gotten salt water in the cylinders. It was his decision to not replace the engine. Back in teh 90's he had run over a crab trap and wrapped the line around the prop shaft and sailed an entire year without using the engine. I talked him into the blanking plate for the stern tube, just in case he wanted to put an engine back in. I never liked the outboard idea. I have pictures of the boat on jackstands with the combi on blocks next to the boat. If there is something I can help you with, or are just curious, eail me and I will try to answer the questions.

uploaded four pictures to folder named V2761. They were taken around 2004 when the engine was pulled, the topsides painted and the bottom paint color changed to black. I remember green, blue and red bottom paint. Other than some superficial cuts to the topside and spider cracking, the hull/deck has suffered no damage. It has suffered from neglect over the years. And the sails are 30 years old.
The last time I saw the boat was about 2006 when my friend started his last attempt at revitalization, which he apparently tired of..
At that time, the wiring was shot, and the interior also suffered from neglect.

It is a tube which slides over the prop shaft to actuate the variable pitch prop.... 1st class pain in the proverbial - I spent an eternity refurbing mine and it still leaked oil all over the place. I should have listened to Steve and thrown it all away and fitted a new Beta..... hindsight is a wonderful thing!
