OK, I know this is dumb (Stu get ready). I re-packed my shaft last Friday and it wss not until I got home that I realized that I had installed the packing at 180 degree intervals instead of 90. Should I pull out the new packing and replace or is it OK to leave in place. Math was never my best subject, but now reading directions is the problem. I was able to get 3 rings in with no problems other than the spacing of the joints. I was using the GFO Fiber Packing.

Not so dumb at all

Hey, chief, thanks for the warning. :) Since the two parts that are the furthest apart have the middle section between them, doesn't seem to be problem. Good work!!!

Sounds OK to me.

I read the directions then left them at home the day I replaced mine. I also used the GFO. I had trouble figuring out where the join was after each ring went in. I think I have 4 pieces altogether. We will see how it seals when it goes in the water still 2 weeks away yet. PS not a dumb question either...

If its not leaking why mess with it

180 degree's probably won't hurt. Its when you line up the gaps/spaces all in line that there is more probability of an issue BTW when you have 3 rings of packing I think they want the gaps/spaces at 120 degrees from each other -- not a big deal though
