The PO had done the dinghy painter wrap thing and bent the strut. Now, due to poor alignment and possibly slight shaft bend, the shaft has been intermittently rubbing against the sides of the shaft log. The hole is more egg shaped than round. So three questions.
1. Is (was) there a bearing in the shaft log?
2. Where can a shaft log (where the shaft exits the hull) be obtained/repaired
2. Can/should the strut be staightened or is it necessary to purchase a new one?

Sure, blame it on the poor PO! :)
1. No, there is no bearing in the shaft log.
2. Dahmer, the same people that make the strut might have that(below).
3. I had mine straightened, damn PO probably bent it. But the yard in Oriental was very knowledgeable. I trusted them to tell me if it could be straightened or would it be weakened too much. They said it went straight with no problem. And they did it on the boat.

Dahmer Struts( http://www.dahmermarine.com/Struts.htm ) Scroll to the bottom. I think ours are #2005 but it is cast on the side. Expensive, over $700. I think.
