Shaft log/ stuffing box

I think I'm needing to replace the hose on my shaft log/ stuffing box?

The hose is swollen with a very small amount of water by clamps which are fairly corroded . I think it's time to replace it ?

what's your thought.

I am changing mine next week, Since you have to back out the shaft to get it off and on you want to not wish you changed out the whole fitting

You may also want to consider changing over to a dripless adapter. I am in the middle of this project. I am changing to a PSS dripless. Also, Catalina used solid couplings and brass shafts; these are items you might also want to change. While you are at it, the cutlass bearing should probably be done. (Don't you just love how a simply job can scope creep into something major)

Spends some time on the Compass Marine "How To" articles (Maine Sail's company website) and also on the Maine Sail section of the featured contributors. He has some pretty simple ways to accomplish all of these project.

The fact you asked these questions, you have your answer.

If having to work on the shaft log & stuffing box, do it all the right way....do it once.

While you are at it, NOW is the time to go to a waterless shaft seal.
Green/fresh water belongs OUTSIDE the boat not inside. I've had mine for 15 years & it was worth the $225.00. No more dealing with drips & packing changes.

A friend I worked with talked me into getting a dripless buy stating,
"I NOW have dust in my bilge!"
