I'm contemplating installing a (PYI PSS) dripless shaft seal on 1" prop shaft. Can anyone advise me the diameter of the shaft log for my H326?
Thanks in advance.

Ken,

I can't say specifically for your boat, but for mine with the 1" shaft, my shaft log is 1-5/8". I purchased the 02-100-112 seal that fits either a 1 1/2" or 1-5/8" log. The rubber bellows has a rubber adapter ring inside that you pop out if it is the larger size.

I know it is difficult to measure the diameter of the log. There was just enough exposed between the rubber hose that I could wrap a narrow strip of paper (because it won't stretch) around it and mark the paper with a pencil where it over lapped. Then flatten it out and measure the distance between the two marks, divide by 3.1415 and there is your diameter.

I have had this seal for more than 10 years (replaced once as a maintenance precaution) and am completely satisfied. I would also suggest buying the split coupling as well from the same supplier. Getting the coupling off the shaft was for me extremely difficult. Now with the split coupling it should never be difficult again.

Allan, thanks. Is the split coupling the 4 bolts squarish block on shaft?

Yes it is. PYI carries them under the R&D name. PYI is the same supplier for the PSS seal. Here is a picture of the coupling.

For my Yanmar I required the 78 mm diameter flange with a 1" shaft bore. As you can see, the four bolts clamp down on the shaft very tightly. For our small engines the manufacturer even indicates it is not necessary to use the shaft key. I had so little room that I couldn't get it to fit back after I assembled the coupling to the shaft. You can see how easy it is going to be to remove again if for any reason you would need to.

The PYI website refers to world wide sales distribution. Maybe you have a local vendor in Singapore?

Cool item. Yes, there's a PYI dealer here in Singapore. I've got quotation from him on the PSS. He asked for the shaft log OD. I'd tried measuring ...like 2_1/8"OD. Think i got it wrong. Will try measure again when get to boat on weekend.
