Captains, In order to eschew any further obfuscation re: the " pathways" on a zinc anode, I was referring to the two channels through which the bolts pass. A nail polish brush has the perfect width for this, thus leaving 90 ? % of the anode to do its job, as has been stated by the various co-posters. A second zinc would also help. What might that be? They have zero effect if there are problems on your own boat.
G-isolators do make you feel safer though. Till they fail with out warning or indication.
I've heard of zincs going in a month if you have (or your fellow slip mates have) a strong stray current. 7 months sounds like you either have a 12 volt circuit leaking or one of the boats in your marina has a leak. I'd start with a testing of the waters to see if there are stray currents present. Unplug the shore power cable at the dock, locate the ground terminal and test between it and a probe placed into the water on your lowest voltage setting. Should read 0.00 volts. They never do but they should. A G-isolator will protect you from others at the marina as long as the voltage is below 2ish volts. different isolators have different voltage biases so you would have to consult the manual or test it to be sure what yours is.
If it is above 2ish volts then you are participating in the great zinc anode reduction program and should report it to your marina office so you can get your certificate of participation.
