Shackleton never had it like this

Every Sunday in November WYC boats still in the water race/sail to a bar at the other side of Lake Minnetonka for a beer. We call it the Shackleton Cup, and it usually snows on half of them. Yesterday, not so much. 73 degrees and 10-18 knots of southery breeze! And an all-lady crew. Regulars Sharon, Patty and Pam, join BlueJ full-timers Jean and Bria for a great day on the water. Thankfully Jodi knew I had invited the entire BlueJ crew pool to come; can I help it if only ladies want to come??

Upwind kinda cool with the apparent wind over the 52f water.

Downwind, we managed 8.5 knots sustained.

Upside to global warming I guess!

It really has been a great week and weekend to be on the lake. We sailed around for most of the day instead of heading up to the bar. Had the north end of the lake mostly to ourselves. Next weekend is the last for us though.

I'm in favor of global warming...if it was hot there, they'd all be in bikinis
Almost came to that. In the downwind shot, you can just see a Santana 2323R in the distance. We caught them by the end of the lake, and the guys crewing the boat ripped off their shirts. The girls started to respond until I reminded them about the GoPro!

There is a time to talk and then there is the adage -silence is golden.

I like the crews intensity on the Spin: keep it winking girls!

what is the passing strategy then Jackdaw downwind. Seems like ducking below would allow the other boat to cover you easier....???

That Santana would have a REAL hard time not letting us get by in that breeze.. but if he wanted to try.... ;^)

We were coming fast, and sitting on his wind. Taking us up would be the right thing to do, but he started too soon, which gave me options. While the two boats are similar in length, BlueJ has a MUCH bigger rig, and with that breeze I was sure I could drive under and by him with just a bit of separation. Thats why I turned back down and got some space, then came back on my line. You could see us passing him as the video ends. By the time he was in our breeze we were long gone.

In front of us is the 'narrows' entrance into Wayzata Bay. Its about 100 yards across and was limiting tactical options.

It was a 'fun race', but as you note the ladies trimming (pat of my regular crew) are hyper competitive. Sharon and Pam not as much, but they pack spectacular boat yummies; we ate and drank like kings!

Dammit, Jackdaw! Why you gotta be that way? :D Jodi would understand if you kept the GoPro on the downlow for the rest of us!

Nope no yelling. Anyone that has sailed with me will tell you, no yelling at all. I think it's why they like to sail with me.

Nope no yelling when sailing with you. Though, there was that time when I was trying to get the spin pole set you said "Dan, get your big boy pants on." Though you said it very calmly and politely.... ;)

LOL I remember that. Sometimes you just gotta let that pole know who's boss.

Ernest would have dug the plucky nature of modern-day Bene's. Winter closing in and its getting scarce at the docks, except for all the FIRSTS.
