Shackle at base of retractable main

Is there supposed to be a shackle at the bottom of the sail?
What does it attach to?

Also---what Fram oil filter fits a Yanmar Diesel 18hp?

Do you mean a furling main? Do you know the mast manufacturer? I know US Spars furling mainsails do have a shackle at the tack. The shackle connects webbing stitched into the sail to a hole in a fitting on the foil.

Don't use Fram - they are garbage. Use a filter made by Wix, like NAPA Gold, if you don't use the Yanmar OEM filter.

I can go into detail on this, having been obsessed with oil filters at one point, even discovering a filter teardown web site.
