One of the calmer days on the bay. Sailed from Alameda to city of Napa where I anchored off the back of my shop. The best part was the Napa River. Came up with the tide in the evening and anchored at about 9:00pm. Sailed all the way up the river from Mare Island which was unexpected. Quiet, calm and much wildlife along the way. Pay attention to your charts, plan for the tides and it's an easy ride. See link. No video of the night portion. Wouldn't convey the feeling anyway. Something you have to do for yourself. Now I have to work a few days to pay for the trip back.

Nice video

I recently moved up to Seattle From San Francisco. Watching your video reminded me of how nice the sailing is there.

Thanks Ed. That was fun. I kept my boat up in point Richmond for two years and miss sailing the bay. Great memories. Thanks again.

Thanx for sharing

Looks like a fun trip Ed......... thanks for sharing. When you are riding the tide north under sail...... how long does it take for the Napa river leg?? I may sail from Isleton to Napa this coming summer.

Napa River transit time

As long as you want. I went under the Mare Island bridge before sundown and got to Napa around 9:30 pm. Sail speed from 4 to .5 knots plus current. You could motor in two hours if you wanted. You can anchor between the Imola Bridge and the Napa Yacht Club clubhouse or go just past the Sea Scouts (both would be west channel). The latter is right next to a low rent neighborhood so not as quiet as anchoring south of the clubhouse in front of the tannery. I draw 4.5ft and have no problem.

That is great footage!!

Great work on the video editing. I was a little curious as to why you chose to head around the west end of Angel Island through Racoon Straits and then up into San Pablo Bay on your way to Napa. I am guessing that little jog was for show. After all, that is our very own French Riviera. I regularly cruise deep into the Delta up the San Joaquin River. I will now check to see if my 6'11" draw can make it up the river. I cannot think of a better place in the SF Bay Area (or entire California Coast) to plan a cruise. Thanks for taking the time to produce the video.
