Settling a 260 on the sand

Have any 260 owners let their yacht settle down on the sand as the tide has gone out.We are thinking of heading up North (Broome) where there are massive tidal shifts which will mean either sailing way out when the tide is falling and sail back in again as the tide rises "or" just letting her settle on the bottom and wait for the return of the water??Any thoughts or experiances appreciated

Nosed up onto beach

I have nosed my boat up to the beach, but I wouldn't set it down as the centerboard extends below the hull. that would be a lot of weight to put on the pivot. I believe you would probably incur mayor structural damage.

No Way

I wouldn't think of letting the boat rest on the bottom. Center board stress, knot meter might get hurt. Leave in water and raft in to shore.

Should be ok

The boat should settle on its side as the tide goes out. Therefore, I don't think there will be a concern for the center board.

I do it on a 23.5

We do it on a 23.5. I guess we've had it settle in mud or sand about ten times in the last twp years without trouble. You should wade around first and make sure there are no rocks at they will cause a damaging point load. Otherwise the loads are very similar to what it sees while it is on the trailer as it puts a lot of weight on the centerboard while riding there too.
