Hello, I am considering dropping my own mooring in an designated special ancorage covered under USCG 110.74a and 110.1. Does anyone know who to talk to about the correct kind of mooring to drop in and if I need to register it or anything with the USCG? Do I need permission or just go ahead and see what happens? There are 3 boats allready there, two on moornings and the third on a big anchor. The anchorage looks big enough to hold 100+ boats. Thanks, Nathan

Nathan you need to contact Moonraker.

He asked this same question last week also from Sarasota.

Pretty Sure You Need a Lease from The State

You can anchor as long as you want (unless the city has an ordinance) but a permanant morring requires a lease from the State. Check with FWC I beleive they are the ones who issue the permit numbers.

Mooring's

When I was house shopping in florida a few years ago and looking in sarasota and asked about the mooring's I was told by a local person that people were putting in there own moorings with out permits and that no one from the city was doing anything about it. This was what I was told about two years ago.
