When you set mast rake what doyou use as a reference, some suface on the boat or the water?

I'm not sure I understand the way the question is worded so I'll answer what I think he's asking. One way to determine the rake of the mast is to tie a plumb bob to the end of the halyard and get the mast straight up and down and then adjust the rake to whatever % your seeking.

I knew that part, but what I needed was the referance was off some part of the boat, or when it was floating.

Buy the way I got you book and chart from SBO right before Christmas.

Alot of the things I did but didn't know why, your book told me why. It was very enlightning and money well spent.
