Is there a trick to removing the top of the settee over the holding tank (see pix attached)? One over the water heater slid right out. This one is pinned in by compression post door jamb. Those who replaced holding tank shirley have figured this out.

Yes, that swine top. Make sure inside that cubby hole that there isn't a screw holding a cleat to it. After that its wiggle wiggle while pulling up and out. It will finally come out.

I have found that lifting the corner by the compression post so the edge clears the post while pulling inboard and aft will allow the top piece to come out where it is tight under the outboard "bulkhead" providing all fasteners are removed, of course.
I left the screws out so I can easier evaluate the holding tank level. The settee seems to be content staying put, but no one has sat in the seat through a tack, either.

Thank you, Allan and Splax. I think have a little wiggle left in me. I'll give it a go. Good idea about the screws. I'll ask for volunteers to sit on it during a tack!

Attached is a pictorial done when I did the compression post. On page 3 you'll see how I got the settee top out. You got the idea from previous posts, lifting carefully while pulling out is the secret. If you want access to the tank you'll need to remove the settee walls. Bottom 2 lines on page 3. Good luck

If wiggling doesn't work...

A previous owner of my H34 cut across the seat at the outer edge, leaving a lip under the starboard cubby bulkhead. He then installed a cleat under the lip so as to be able to support the lid when the holding tank was replaced. I got the chore of replacing it! See pix

Same here with the lift and wiggle.. It helped to remove all the screws holding the wall plate at the bottom and push it outboard while pulling on the settee top plate.

Claude, Thanks for sharing the amazingly detailed set of compression post pictures. I recall seeing this early after joining and not fully comprehending what was involved. It is now saved in my "Don't Leave Home Without It" file. Don, thanks for the option of making another cut. Off to the boat again in minute and taking the saw just in case I run out of wiggle. BTW, nice looking tank. Kloudie, I'll try removing those extra screws first and pull the wall plate out. FYI, all this started when I had to remove a section of wet, rotted sole under the water heater. Refinished the aft settee at home and decided to pull this one to do the same and make it easier to refinish the sole before reinstalling water heater. Thanks, again.
