Hello,
I have a 2002 Hunter 386 with Selden furling main. The mainsail is difficult to haul out in any kind of wind and I believe the root cause is a worn our bearing in the boom car (not sure if there is a better or proper term?) The obvious next step is to remove the car but this is proving difficult. There are two possible routes, forward or aft. The sensible design would lead me to pull the car out forward but the stopper assembly cannot pass out without a bit of grinding inside the horizontal track. My partner is concerned about exposing fresh aluminum if we go down that road.
Removing the car aft will require pulling out some torx fasteners and removing the boom end cap. This looks like a bit of a job.
Can anyone tell me the proper procedure?
thanks
