I have an 83' C30. On the electrical control panel there is a little service light that came on when we were motoring out. Does anyone know what this light actually indicates. I can't seem to find anything about it in the manual or online.

Is it green? If so, it should light up whenever you turn the DC power on with the 1-2-B switch.

Wow, I can't type tonight. I thought it might be a ground fault indication of some sort. But not really sure.

Maybe you could post a picture, it might help us to help you. Shouldn't be a ground fault if you weren't plugged into shorepower.

I don't think I have any pictures with me and it will be a few weeks before I can get back out to the boat. Sorry man. I'm trying to put together a trouble shooting plan for when I get back. I just remembered a few more details: it's stays on any time the dc power is on. It's also stays on when the boat is hooked up to shore power. I just purchased the boat so I'm still learning the ins and outs of the system.

My '85 has two rows of six switches on the DC panel. The bottom switch on the first row has a switch removed and a simple light installed (actually it burnt out and I had to solder in a new bulb when I first bought the boat) that lights up anytime there is DC power to the DC distribution bus.

Mine is a small clear bulb, but the cover is blue to make it look like a blue light. On my panel it is labled "SERVICE", is this what you're talking about?

Other than that, on the AC side there are three lights that are used to show reverse polarity or AC power on and normal.

I also have an 83' c30 with the same orange light.. so went over and tried it.. as soon as I moved the DC switch from 2 to 'off' the light went out :) So, I think it is just showing you there is power to the DC panel/appliances

Dan, that sounds like the light I'm talking about. Mr. Miller, that makes me feel a lot better. I guess I must have giggled some wires while I was digging around in there.

This actually answers some questions on my panel, those "it's not really broke, so I'm not jacking with it" kinda issues. On a boat that's nearing 30, I'm just thankful when I turn on the running lights that they actually come on, usually, for the most part.
