Let's see, last time around they put the boat up on a reef.
This time they hit a fishing boat and were dismasted.

Not looking good for Team Vestas and Charlie Enwright.

Ya know. What denizen of the deep did this franchise infuriate. This thing is going to need renaming. Death and Destruction Ocean Race would be more fitting. Mapfre had the busted mast track but managed repairs and are sailing again. I cringe every time I open the VOR newsfeed.

If they were in a North breeze they would have been close reaching? After going through the Southern Ocean in rough conditions mostly downwind maybe slamming into 9' waves did the rig in. Doesn't seem like the conditions were nearly as bad as they've seen.

As for the reef, remember, different crew and that navigator is probably still out of a job. The fishing boat situation is still under investigation but I read an interview with Enright, They were tracking multiple AIS targets 30 miles off shore. The fishing boat was not on AIS, it was of course dark, AND they were not lighted. That all has been discussed to death here and elsewhere. All completely different situations.

One thing is certain. The boats and crews have been tested and found wanting. I do believe they have found the limits for this endeavor.
