Anyone have this problem? Had nice sail, boat back in slip ,all secured
and I was ready to leave. Set in perch seat for few minutes enjoy
sunshine and my good fortune when redhead woodpecker landed
on my rolled up genny and tried to drill hole. Scared him off looked
at damage. Several small holes in uv cover. Don't know yet
how far they go. Started to leave boat and back he came to try
again. Scared him off again. Maybe color blind? Likes "blue" trees?
Time to hand CD discs off genny?

Not exactly, but we also had a close encounter of the Woodpecker kind. About 20 years ago we were sailing back from Angel Island and we saw this bird coming toward us. We could tell it was really tired as it would get real close to the water then pull up at the last second. It spotted us and flew right down the companionway. I found it attached to the side of the v berth huffing and puffing. When we got back to Alameda I opened the hatch and it flew out leaving us a small present on the cushions. Maybe our Woodpecker is your's great grandfather.

Was out sailing a few weeks ago and the wind just died completely. I was drifting along waiting for another little puff and a blue heron headed for the boat, neck out and gear down, and was about to land on the bow pulpit when the jib moved and he abandoned his approach and flew away.

We were sailing up the New Jersey coast when a small bird landed on the deck. The boat was covered with thousands of tiny bugs that got stuck in the morning dew. The bird hopped around the boat as if he owned it, gobbling bugs as he went. Down the companionway and back up to the cockpit. We have pictures of him (her?) sitting on the chart, looking at my thumb, and going nose to nose with our dog. Eventually, the cute little guy left, leaving us with a couple million of those bugs on the deck. Could have used a bunch more like him.

I wonder if your genoa has somehow got bug infestation between the sunbrella uv cover. I don't think Woody Peckerwood eats Sunbrella or Dacron.

Possible but genny gets pretty good work out which should shake them loose but maybe. You are right don't
think he eats but sure can produce some holes with that beak. Will check out in few
days and see how deep.
