I recently had a prospective buyer come look at my 1975 O'Day 20 and he brought along the NADA pricing guide, which listed my boat at about $1700. The 7.5 Honda outboard was listed at about $80. The buyer cited the warped hatch boards, cracked hatch tracks, and a small amount of water (less than a couple spongefuls) that was coming in from an unkown source. The rigging is in good shape as well as the sails and hull. I painted the deck, installed a new CVF light and painted the interior with a mildew-proof paint. I also added a ritchie compass and boat bell. I bought the boat for $2300 in April of 2005.(without the Honda motor) The buyer is offering me $1800, but no more. I have it listed for $2700. Here are my questions: Should I take this buyer's offer? Should I wait until spring when there may be more buyers who will pay my price? Is my price fair? I have another boat now and will have to start paying dry storage in April. (Won't be able to demonstrate the Honda motor then). Advice?

Howdy, sounds like a tire kicker to me. The boat is worth what a seller will pay, you can take the $900 less and probably wonder if you had waited... As far as the $80 for the motor, ask him to find one for $80, yearh right! Jack Hart Fair winds...

Cate, Just as a point of reference, I sold my 1976 22ft O'Day with a just tuned up 7.5 Honda for $3,600. This was less than one year ago. My boat had no leaks, nice teak hatch boards and decent sails. I will buy all running 7.5 Hondas for $80 bucks! Just drop me a line. I think an offer of around $2,500 would be more like it. This guy is looking for a steal not a deal.

hi i am on the other side of the fence i am looking to buy . your price sounds fair to me (if you can sail it to saskatchewan i'd buy it) although i would'nt swear to it i think the nada guide is referring to the outboard bracket not the outboard for 80.00 .i have found these price guides to be on the low side and don't reflect the market, location or accesories . good luck selling her . happy sailing mike

Nada Guide list the motor as a separate listing and yes Nada Guide has your engine if it is 1987 witch is the last year listed in the guide between 85.00 and 100.00. That price reflects that the engine is 19 years old. You could do better selling without the boat but not much better. Old boats as long as they are kept well you can sell them well. Before I bought my O’Day 25 for 3500.00 with a 1990 Yamaha engine I looked at an O’Day 22 1977 for 2200.00 way under priced but in good shape with a trailer. So the price varies sometimes with no rime or reason. Hang on for the rite buyer.

Thanks for the sanity check guys. Here in NJ I have seen similar O'Day's listed for around 3K. Honda 7.5's for $500. Spring is coming and hope a nice buyer who is ready to sail comes along.
