Has anyone put self tailing winches on their water ballast hunter 260s? I'd like to replace my current non self tailer on the starboard side used to raise the centerboard and main halyard. I bought the smallest one I could find from lewmar and it had 5 bolts (my current has 4 bolts). Anyone have any luck with this?

Self Tailing

Peter, I just took delivery of a 2004 260 a month ago. The previous owner had the winches switched out by the dealer to Andersen 12ST self tailing. I am not sure if any mounting modifications were made but I will take a look when I get up to the lake later this week. Chris

Put lewmar ST16 on mine

Peter, Picture shows how the holes lined up, not a great fit but works. Just plug up the old holes and drill and tap new ones. There is a aluminum backing plate embedded in the fibreglass. Don't try to drip epoxy into the holes it will just drip onto the headliner. Tailing winches make a great and pleasent difference to line handling. Jim S/V Java

Plug the holes but w/o epoxy?

You say plug the holes but do not use epoxy? What did you plug yours with. Also, Im assuming you had to drill through your aluminum backing plates? What did you pay for that winch?

Peter I'll have to check my records...

Seems I remember I got a pretty good deal on them. Think I got one from ebay and the other on sell somewhere - let me check if I have anything... I filled the old holes with 3M5200 fast and easy. You could also place a wad of glass soaked with epoxy into the hole. Let it dry cut or grind off the excess and fill with more epoxy to smooth it out, but I was in a hurry. Jim S/V Java

aluminum backin plates?

And the aluminum backing plate....do I drill through that or it's removable from the inside so as to get access to the glass?

Must be a differnet 260 to mine??

For the center board lifting rope is on the port side of my 260. Wonder why they changed?
