self tailing winch installation

I am going to install harken self tailing winches on my 1976 O'day 25. I plan on epoxying old winch holes and redrilling for new winches. I don't plan on a base plate or wedge. I will install at same location as originals. Anyone have a comment? thanx, gene

Use backing plates

I replaced the winches on my '83 23 foot. My new Lewmar's fit in the same holes, although I epoxied the internal surface of the holes and filled in the recessed holes in the headliner. I made aluminum backing plates for all my replacement hardware. This not only strengthened the original holes, but added reinforcement. CVP
