furling main
It would be helpful if you identified the manufacturer of the furler and which model boat it is on.If you are having difficulty unfurling, and no line has cross threaded on the spool in the mast, it is probably because the sail got some creases wedged into the slot when it was last furled.Try unfurling it at the dock or at anchor when there is minimal wind. Have someone at the mast pull the sail by hand when it begins to stick. This can take some strength/weight depending how tightly the creases are wedged in. After you get it out, be very careful to keep tension on the outhaul as you refurl the sail and watch to make sure it rolls up smoothly as it goes into the mast. You also might want to check that the furling and outhaul lines are in good shape and are the correct diameter. On mine, the previous owner had put larger diameter line on the system thinking that that would prevent line from cross threading on the track.Lastly, if the sail is dirty, permanently creased or otherwise in bad shape, you might want to send it to SailCare for rehab. I did and with the new lines, like new sail, and attention to furling all my problems went away.Good luck
