Seldon In Mast Furling - Halyard Swivel - it it right ?

Hi - continued problems with this, even spent money on a rigger (still a problem) See video - does anyone know if the lower part of the Halyard swivel, which attaches to the mainsail is designed to spin with the foil ? It doesn't seem to, and when I try to spin it around the foil it's very rough (and yes, it was lubricated. Have contacted Seldon mast and waiting for a reply - any other experiences much appreciated

Yes. Think about the relative motion when the sail is furled. The foil turns, driven by the geared winch on the mast. Picture the sail wrapping on the foil when furling. The shackle to which the headboard is attached must rotate with the foil when the sail is furled. But the shackle is really just along for the ride because as the sail begins to furl there is no motion between the shackle and the foil as the sail wraps, but there is motion between the swivel and the halyard attachment. Take a look at these drawings from my docs. There does appear to be a ball bearing in the assembly under the swivel part you are trying to turn. I lived with one of these for 14 years on my 44DS.

Yes - I think you're missing the lock - pin?ball? that goes in the hole you can see in your movie that rides in the groove in the furler and locks them together (and allows you to raise the main). I couldn't find a clear diagram in my selden manual either - same as Rick486

Thanks all - chuckwayne - do you know the part name or picture and if the mast has to come down again ? The Seldon tech person only said - "your halyard swivel needs to be replaced" - not particularly helpful

Thanks - the seldon rep says I need to replace the entire swivel (1000 in parts) and all the costs of unstepping the mast, taking the system apart and re-installing - I'd much rather replace a locking pin if it exists
