The emails keep coming in for the Selden sprits on sale. Has anybody actually installed one? If so, what boat and what do you think of it?

Cheers

Anything Selden makes is a good thing as they are a top notch company with top notch gear. Now the sprits are good for getting that asymmetrical spinnaker away from the mainsail so that you can keep cleaner air in it so it performs better. The Selden sprit accommodates that need. They have different hardware attachments to help fit different situations and if you don't want it on deck, it is easily removable. There are different collars, for example to best accommodate your particular application. The last one installed was on an S-2 9.2A to answer your question.

We spent some time with the Selden folks in Annapolis and the sprit/furler/ups package looks like a winner.

The sprit seems well thought out.

If you do a search of the archives for Doyle UPS you'll find a lot of reviews from people using the sail/sprit combo. Pretty much all of them are positive.

Beneteau First 36.7 & 260 Minneapolis MN & Bayfield WI
We have one on our First 36.7 that we use when cruising. Its big advantage is keeping the tack line away from the bow pulpit. On bigger boats the load can bend the rails if snagged on a jibe. Other advantages, it allows inside jibes, moves the CE forward, and if you want, you can have your sail made larger. The pole and hardware are first class. Our smaller First 260 has a Sparcraft sprit, and I have to say I like that one better; the forward ring totally un-clips from the deck when not in use.

Visiting in Duluth for Tall Ships.

The Sparcraft one is quite nice too. I like the integral sheave up front.
