Selden in-mast furler halyard car won't go up

I have a Selden in-mast furler for my main sail and the halyard car is getting stuck. I have a 2007 Hunter 41DS. This is the second season this has happened. Last spring a sail maker friend of mine beat on it with a hammer until the car freed and I was able to put the sail on. I don't like the idea of pounding on my mast every spring. The car is getting stuck on something inside the mast that I can't see and I'm not sure I can fix. Like most places, there are very few qualified riggers in my area. Has anyone else encountered this problem and how did you solve it. The halyard moves freely, so I know that not the problem.

Not knowing where your car is jamming, I can just relate what happened to me and hope it helps.
On my system (Selden in mast) the halyard a car was hitting the plastic sleave just above it. At some point trying to unjam it (no hammer) it bent up a very small part of the plastic. Of course, trying to force it up caused it to become worse. The "jam spot" was small enough that I could clip the extended part of the bend and file smooth the edges. After that it never jammed again.
Sorry no pictures.
Good luck.
