Selden IMF on H38 - How to remove main halyard pin?

The last line on my H38 to be replaced is the main sail halyard (did you know blow boats are made of string?!?!?!?!).

Its a Selden In Mast Furling and the halyard attaches to a car that slides up and down the foil inside the mast. The head of the sail then attaches to another shackle on that car.

Its the halyard to car connection I can't figure out. There's an eye spliced in the line, and there's a pin in the car through that line, that is retained with a cotter pin.

I removed the cotter pin expecting to be able to push the pin out just enough to remove the old halyard, connect the new, and reseat the pin. Everything has to be done through a little hole in the mast.

I can't get the pin to budge, even light tapping with a drift. It rotates, but won't move otherwise. Selden and Hunter's docs are less than enlightening.

Any ideas?

Pics coming shortly.

Agree the Selden manual is pretty vague on your question. Might have to cut the halyard eye to separate it from the shackle. This video might be when you attach the new halyard (1) Attaching the Halyard - Bing video . Think how much fun you will have when you replace your in-mast continuous furling line.

to close this out the pin was gummed up with 14 years of gunk. A shot of pb blaster and an overnight wait and the pin came out easily. Fwiw the pin comes TOWARDS you, the backside is a solid casting.

As far as the furling line that’s in and now I’m watching YouTube videos and playing with my new fids
