Hi All, I'm getting close to installing my shiny new shrouds and stays. The fine riggers were kind enough to send along some seizing wire for the spreaders, but I am not sure what the proper procedure is for seizing. As some of you may remember from one of my previous posts, a po had used some stiff wire from some conduit for that purpose. This new wire I have now is stainless, fairly flexible and thin, and I gather that your supposed to wrap a few times between spreader and shroud, but how do you then affix it so it does not "unravel". Tie some sort of knot? Maybe twist the ends together, securely tape it (probably not a good idea depriving stainless of air)? Hopefully this is not too stupid of a question, but I can't seem to find any info on it. It's definitely a safety issue and I don't want to do it the wrong way. BTW- if it makes any difference, I will be covering the tips with boots. Thanks to all in advance - Manny

Monel?

The wire is probably monel which is a nickel/copper alloy. The idea is to attach the shroud to the end of the spreader in such a way that it will not come loose. I usually twist the ends and then cover with spreader boots to protect the headsail from chafing. Tim R.

Just Make Sure...

...that you don't leave any sharp ends protruding that would hook/tear the sail. Also, ask your rigger the question you just asked here. I'm sure he'll be more than happy to answer your question. Most of then like to help another person with advise. Remember - No question is a dumb question, if it can be answered by someone. The dumb part is doing it wrong and getting caught! ;)

Thanks

Thanks all for the advice. I will try twisting the ends and see how that holds. Can't wait for splash day! Manny
