Sadly, the diver was unable to recover the glasses. He said it was near zero visibility. He searched a 10' radius for over an hour by hand. At least I have a diver on call for future work

Marina slips shouldn't have wood, derelict anchors and wires under them. It would be a very poor marina that did. While shore power leakage is a potential issue, one simply disconnects if diving off the boat and there can be no problem.
Not in freshwater. Any AC leakage in the water will travel through the body because there is less resistance than there is in the water. Contact with the boat or dock is not necessary to cause the current to pass through the body. In saltwater the resistance is lower in the water than the body, so leakage is less of an issue.

One should test and know if shore power leakage is a problem in general on their boat.
I wouldnt expect anything less from Chicago Harbors. It takes 1-2 years for them to do anything. They can't even keep the goose crap off of the dinghy dock. There's no way their picking up decades of trash from the bottom

For positive diopter glasses, I switched to non-prescription (drugstore, Amazon, dollar store) on the boat years ago. If I lose a pair or someone (me?) sits on them, it's like spilling a can of soda. Nothing. $1.25. Needless to say, I had to dive for my prescription glasses and lost one pair.

For sun glasses (bike, boat, and kayak), I use bifocal safety glasses. $12.00 Amazon. Very good IMO. No stress. They stay on very well.

If you need a positive diopter for distance, you can get those too, and then switch.

There are other discount glasses solutions for negative diopters.

Not worth a diver, when you consider it's 50/50 in mud.

This worked well for me for a while - cheap as chips and I don't need fancy fashion or brand - but once astigmatism develops, you have to pay up for prescription.

Bummer losing your glasses Dave.

I was wearing my 1-year old Maui Jims this summer- a gift from my wife- but had them on top of my hat. I looked up at the mast (or drained a beer, but don’t tell my wife), and I felt them fall back over my head…I turned as they hit the back coaming, then fell to the swim platform….and then finally slipped off into the Lake. Major bummer. No hope to find those.

In the marina, I was removing my forestay chain plate and dropped a socket into the water. next day tied a magnet on a fishing pole and lowered it down…moved it around a bit, and snagged the socket. That one turned out good.

I dropped a stainless steel fitting for my davits once, right off the back of the boat in my slip. It was a heavy block of stainless. I tried using a net with a boat hook taped on to get more length…no go. I tried diving down (just a mask). Hard to get down 20 feet with no fins…so dropped an anchor off the back and tried pulling myself down using the chain…still no good. Finally “hired” a boat neighbor with scuba gear to dive and see if he could find it…no luck. Same issue your diver had…no visibility, touch the bottom and the silt was inches deep. Cost me a nice bottle of scotch for him to try. Since it was stainless, magnet did not work.

One of my friends worked at a yard. One day, while working at the dock, the wind picked up and pushed his cart of tools into the water. He was able to retrieve most of them with a 2lbs anchor

When it is too rough to dive shipwrecks out on Lake Michigan, occasionally we will dive the slips .
We have found a staggering amount of glasses and phones .
The silt is very real . Normally spring and late fall are the best times as the water clarity is the best .
