See the light

I just acquired a 94' H26, that has these lights in it. To turn them on/off you twist them. I don't know if they are original or not. I like the all around clear plastic design, they put out a lot of light. Can anyone explain to me how to open them up? I'd like to convert them to LEDs, but for the life of me I can't figure out how to open them without breaking them.

Doug, Push up and rotate another 1/8th turn to the left (CCW). Then it should pop out for you.

Thanks Jeff! Man do I feel like an idiot, never thought to push. Good thing I didn't break it. Those lights are nicer than I thought, with festoon bulbs. I can also see now they're made by Hella. I assume your boat has them too? Mine has five, galley, head, table, aft berth and v-berth. All I need is $150 to invest in five festoon LEDs. :)

......................... and check with these people for LED replacements.

Don't know if this is your exact replacement bulb but they will have the one your looking for and they're all in the $12.50 range.

IMO these give the warmest approximation to a tungsten bulb. I looked for years before finally deciding on these ones. The rest were too cold looking.

BTW, I hope your not looking at Waste Marine for LED replacement bulbs. You'll easily pay $30.00+ for their bulbs and I don't think they carry Marine Beam.

Re: Put Your Wallet Away ..............

Oh yeah I like those prices Ralph! I will save the link and buy some LEDs from there.
BTW: I was looking at WM.

Hi, here's a pic in my album. I forget the price, I ordered from superbrightled.com. I chose the warm white option, very close to the old ones. Measure your old bulb in millimeters before ordering to get the right thing. Less than 1/10 the current with LED's. They only work in one direction, by the way, so reverse them if they don't light up at first.
