Any suggestions (non-drilling) for securing my laptop (Mac) at the navigation station? Right now we have the surface top laminated with white Formica.

Was thinking of using 1" velcro buttons however when things get rough they might not hold.

Thanks

Ducati, If you look on both sides of the top of the nav station you will see a small eye fitting. The rubber pad under the laptop and a bungy cord stretched between the two eyes and the laptop has sat there in gale conditions and never moved. Chuck

Wow there are some serious fixes here. All good stuff. I just got some standard non slip rubber cabinet liner and cut a piece to sit under the lap top. Short of a knockdown or a 4 G negative dive, my laptop has never moved.

Try this: www.treefrogpad.com

This stuff is great- very sticky but easy to remove with no residue. You can cut it with scissors into strips/ squares whatever. I use two 1" wide strips to hold my laptop to the chart table.

I use strips of velcro and have never had a problem even in rough seas.

I second the Velcro idea. It will never move until you decide to move it, even if the boat capsizes and sinks.

I use the strap method with the laptop sitting on non-skid placemat material. I just recently bought some of the treefrog stuff and it is STICKY but removes with no residue. I place cell phones, tv controllers and other things on it I don't want flying around.

Two options I use: 1) shelf liner mesh and 2) velcro straps with buckles and velcro pads that attach to the table and computer.

So Simple

For years I have just had a small SS screw into either side of the upstand on my nav table. A short length of the orange polypropylene line the kids use for crabbing, tied off on the left side and with a slip loop on the other end.
Just put the laptop on the nav table and pull this line across the hinge between screen and keyboard and fasten the loop over the other screwhead on the RHS.
Over a decade my laptops haven't moved an inch.

Make sure you put the appropriate chart under the laptop first just in case the cigar lighter plug on the laptop power brick becomes disconnected and the laptop switches off!
