Second Lifeline

My 1984 O'day 26 (and I think many other O'day models)has only a top lifeline between stanchions. Does anyone know if there is a retrofit kit to install a second lifeline midway up the stanchions? Seems to me that there should be a fitting that clamps on to the stanchions and receives the lifeline through it. Another alternative may be to drill through each stanchion, insert a press-in ferrule, and run a line through it, terminating at the bow & stern pulpits. Thanks in advance for your reply. Chuck

My 272 has double lifelines

but I don't know if they were OEM or an add-on. It is an '86 model and I have owned it since the 1995 season. Drilling and adding a second lifeline will work, but it sure is tough on drill bits... ;-) I through-bolted my stanchion posts this fall and wore out 3 or 4 bits making the holes in the stanchions and bases. There is such a fitting

Your local marine supplier ought be able to help you. There is an eye that clamps to the stantion and lets you reeve a lifeline through it. That's the route I'd take. Justin - O'day Owners' Web
