I really like the looks and concept of the Seaward RK32. Does anyone here have first hand knowlege of how well she sails? Does the lifting keel operate smoothly? Does it seem like the mechanism would be trouble free long term? How would you rate overall quality of boat say as compared to a new Catalina? I thank you for your reply. Lance

I crew on the 32 once a week during the winter.

1. lifting keel seems to work ok ... we generally only run it half down but the rudder needs to be nearly full down for best performance in stronger winds to balance well. I think the only problem is when someone let the keel down at the dock in low water, and the reel over rode like a fishing reel would. there is a view window to see the cable winding up. If the keel is at half you have to be careful not to catch the jib sheet on the keel lifting bar while tacking. but that would go away if we let the keel down another 9 in. Points well half down. 2. sails reasonably well ... but not at racer level ... probably comparable to a Catalina 30+ but we haven't sailed against one. 3. I would have liked another foot or so on the mast for a bit bigger sail area. There is a stay sail option but a bit of work for short sails. It is not a tender boat so could use a little more sail. (keep in mind I sail on a J30 a lot as well) 4. Construction: two years haven't turned up any problems. Vic "Seven"

Hake Seaward 26 or 27 is dog

Not Sure if this is the same boat but I think it is.. The 26 or 27 foot model looks to be very underpowered and my '84 hunter 27 easily out paces it.

Not a racer

The Seawards are sturdy, high quality trailerable cruisers. They are not racers. They are certainly not dogs.
