You were adapting to the PacNW Way... Happy you had the experience. It is a magic place at times.
Should your compass find you heading this way again. Let us know.

No more "Boeing paid vacations" to Seattle anymore. We got sold off about 12 years ago. The wife and I would still like to get back up there again someday.

Right downtown next to Pikes Place is an adorable and very cool hotel, Inn at the Market...with an awesome view. www.innatthemarket.com.
I was all excited to recommend you go to Cuttysark Nautical Antiques but I think it has closed!! Too bad, it was fabulous!
You might inquire if it possibly moved.....
The San Juan Islands are so much fun starting with the Ferry ride that is so inexpensive!! We went specifically to see a concert (Jesse Winchester) and that was in Friday Harbor so we stayed at an adorable place called Bird Rock. Great little spot: www.birdrockhotel.com. Lots of fun harbors to check out on the Island ..we dock walked them all..... and lots of wildlife. Very interesting Island. I love Seattle area, lucky you!!!

Lots of great Asian food. We OD on Thai food when we go back. Little hole in the wall at 5210 Roosevelt called Amazing Thai is aptly named. Tiny place, about 4 tables and a counter, like a diner. No atmosphere, fabulous food.

The best green curry on the planet is at Simply Thai, in South center, at 235 Strander Blvd.

Museum of Flight is very cool, but if you are short on time, I'll third the notion to not miss the Center for Wooden Boats on South Lake Union.

Can't help you on hotels, we stay with friends or family.

The air museum is the only one where I've seen an SR71 complete with a drone attached

Yes, though I thought that might change the weekend it arrived. On the flight in, the first officer took his uniform hat and stuck it in between two bulkheads in the cockpit while the space was available during supersonic flight. When the plane cooled down, and the heat expansion reversed, he knew the cap would be there for all time.

Pretty cool, huh. Well, only until some yahoo ripped or cut the cap out that very first weekend.

It's a spectacularly engineered airplane and well worth seeing. I met John Cook, one of BA's lead Concorde pilots, at Oshkosh one year, and he joked that the designers put exactly 100 passenger seats in the plane so that "the pilots would be able to calculate what the passenger load was, by percent".

Maine sail, not sure of your timeline in Seattle but if time permits grab the Seattle Bainbridge car ferry...a pleasant 30 minutes across the sound with great views of the Olympics, Mt Rainier, and Mt Baker. Figure 20-25 minutes to downtown Poulsbo and there you may walk among the numerous shops and eateries on the water front. And thanks for your contribution to this website. You are a tremendous asset.

1+ for this hotel. When we come down from Vancouver Island it is our favourite place to stay in Seattle. Great walking starting point for checking out the downtown area. Driving in Seattle can be a pain, best to plan your road trips a little early before hopping in the car.. Otherwise Seattle is a great city we try to visit every odd year or so.
