I am considering a move to the Seattle area. If I make this move, I think I would like to trade in my smaller boat on a bigger, live aboard. Can anyone tell me what the slip fees are running for a live aboard in the 38' - 40' range in the Seattle area?

Depends on where you will be docked/living. For my 45 foot slip (a 30 minute ferry ride from downtown Seattle) cost is about $350/month. Lots of other 'in-city' slips can run $500 to as much as $800 with live-aboard fees. Some places have long waiting lists for live-aboard as well as non-live aboard slips.

Lake Washington.
In Kenmore, north end of Lake Washington, moorage for a 38-footer is $380 a month. No live-aboards. Similar cost a bit south at Newport Shores, east side of Lake Washington. More in Kirkland-Bellevue. Fresh water has it's advantages... But tomorrow it will take me about 4 hours to get through all the bridges (must raise several of them) and the Locks to get to the Puget Sound. It's beautiful now, sunny with wind! Off to the San Juans for 2 weeks.

Some marinas do not allow any over hang (so if you have a 38, and the slip is 40 you pay for the 40'). farther away from Seattle the rates are slightly less. The most reasonable marinas have a lifetime waiting list. I pay $200 for my 36'. Michael

Shilshole Bay
I keep a 28-footer at Shilshole Marina, one of the nicer marinas in the area. It costs me about $245/month on subleases, which are controlled and cannot be greater than the Port Authority charges the owner. Michael O'

Is pretty much what you'll see in the better marinas... but that does not include a liveaboard surcharge, which can run from $50/mo to w whopping 50% at Elliott Bay Marina.
