a wisp of a clue

Bully, I take it "Inyala" is the subject of the book "A Modern Sea Beggar" which chronicles the voyages of Temple Utley and is published in a number of places on the www. I found one intriguing reference to a "schooner" Inyala ("vessel ID 500113044") that "Visited Auckland once on 13 Jun 1941" in the New Zealand Maritime Index (see link below). Confusing a yawl with a schooner would be an easy mistake for a landlubber clerk to make, so it could easily be referring to your Inyala. Happy hunting!

...and another straw..

Bully, There's also an intriguing entry on the web site of the John H Marsh Maritime Research Centre in South Africa, on their page described as "A catalogue of a collection of 18000 photographs of 9200 ships taken in South Africa, mainly between 1921 and 1953": "INYALA hopper 112/1981 in 1985". I have no idea what "hopper" refers to, but the dates of the photograph seem out of synch with the description of the date of the contents and may be worth investigating. "Prints are available for purchase..." at http://www.rapidttp.co.za/museum/jmmrc.html
