Sealing engine hatch

I've seen a few other people post about how the hatch above the engine leaks - what have people done to stop this?

On my one it looks like it was originally screwed down, but the PO blocked up all the screw holes and laid some kind of rubber gasket down which is now totally gone.

I tried using rubber door weather tape, but looking at it I don't think that is going to cut it at all.

I'd be interested in seeing what other people have done!

I have the same problem on my H30. The opening has a rubber seal around it and the hatch has two screw-type latches that are tightened from below through an access hatch in the quarterberth. Unfortunately, the latches can't be tightened enough to compress the gasket to get any sort of seal. So, the hatch leaks.

I plan to put additional rubber seal on the hatch side and find some latches that would better compress the seal. I have in mind some sort of spring-loaded over-center sort of thing but haven't found anything yet.

Edit: Here is a link to what the latches are supposed to look like:

Nice work Rardi. Thanks for sharing. Your solution looks quite bullet proof.

Want to bump this as I finally got round to doing it using Rardi's method (thanks again!). What a huge pain though! I had to do one at a time for the first 4, and then 2 at a time for the remaining ones.

Its an elegant solution though and I think it will hold up very well. It's very waterproof.
