I have a 1976 O'day 25 that, except for the chainplates, is bone dry. I looked at many newer 25s thru 27s and this is the best I found so I bought it. I'm in the process of oversize drilling, sealing with epoxy then rebedding with 4200 at all thru deck fittings, bolts etc. I've seen a lot of 'punky' deck areas on boats. The first boat I had surveyed. It was an '84 26. Looked shiny beautiful. I stopped the survey at $2400 dollar repair to deck estimate. Sadly for me and the trully unaware, uninformed owner, I of course did not purchase the boat. I just want to caution buyers to beware. Get a survey if you don't know what to look for. gene

Icouldn,t agree with you more. Watch out for the chainplate area as that can affect your bulkheads just below and if they are rotted then you are in for a big repair. I used sikaflex 292 on my repair as my local yard seemed to thnk highly of it. I have had no leaks since I did the repair 2 years ago. We put the boat in on tuesday and will move it today to our mooring,I am looking for ward to a good season.

sikaflex is also a polyurethane. Only the balsa core was wet at the chainplates. I put a heater and fan on them for five days. I oversize drilled it, sealed it and rebedded with 4200. I checked the bulkhead and post under the tabernacle(which I drilled sealed etc.) when I first looked at the boat. I was amazed there were no stains or sign of leakage at all. I returned for a closer inspection a second time and put a down payment on it. I still had a 6 boat prospective list. It was difficult to stop looking. gene

BULKHEAD DRY ROTT

when I bought my 25 3yrs. ago,it was during a dry summer.Did not find any moisture in the bulkhead till the next rainy spring. What a wet mush,I had to replace the entire bulkhead.I wish I would have had the boat surveyed. It's very important to keep an eye for moisture at the bulkhead chain plate.
