I just purchased a Nexus 1000. The depth & Log/Temp units. I have to install the through-hulls for the transducers. The old ones are glassed in & I have to cut them out. These new ones, acording to the directions are sealed in with a, "polyurethane sealing compound". Does anybody know what that is, or has something been lost in translation (it's made in Sweden). Alternatively, what is a good sealer to use?

3M 5200

Roger, They're refering to 3M 5200 marine adhesive/sealant or similar products. Both Sika and Life Caulk offer products as well.

Roger, 5200 is the most permanent stuff you can buy. It does not mean it is the best for the job. 5200 is a 3M product. They also make 4200 which is more forgiving if it ever needs to be removed. Life seal is made by BoatLife. It is also a polyurethane sealant. If your Swedish part asks for polyurethane, be cafeful not to use polysulfide. And for sure don't use silicone!! r.w.landau
