I've removed the compression post and want to reseal it with appropriate sealer to prevent the dreaded leak around the post (at either top or bottom). Others who have done this project used 3m 5200 at the base and implied that they's used it around the cabin roof. I'm sure not to use an adhesive up top but the original sealer sort of looked like 5200 at the base. The cabin roof sealer looked more like silicone or 3m 4200. Any ideas are appreciated.

Thanks in advance, Mike

Life Caulk, Butyl tape, 4200 will all do the job.

NEVER EVER use 5200 in a place like this.

I definitely hear what you're saying. That said the factory sealant around the CB bracket bolt is much different than any silicone based sealant or Butyl tape which I will be using at the cabin roof and on deck. Had hoped to reset it tomorrow but may wait in hopes of a response from the factory or somebody who has successfully reset a 260 compression post.

If I get antsy I'll try using Butyl tape before I bother with something that'd probably glue it permanently or be so rubbery it'd fail from the pressure. The pic of the bottom of the post shows what feels like a silicone type caulking but the other pic of the remaining caulking around the CB bracket bolt is very different. Very much like a well cured wad of 5200 that was nearly impossible to remove.

Thanks for the heads up.

Mike
