The handle on my plastic seacock broke off in my hand. The good news is it's the valve that feeds water to the a/c unit and it broke in the off position. My question is can the thru hull be pluged from below and the seacock be replaced while the boat is in the water? Thanks, Bob

Swapping Seacocks in Seawater Slowly

Hi Bob, That's not a recommended procedure, it could be possible if the thru hull is attached to the hull with screws/bolts. If it is held in place by the pressure of the seacock when it is tightened down, you could easily bread the seal and have all the cooling water you could imagine for your AC. With a little luck!

Quite often the caulking will hold the fitting in place on the hull so if you plug from the outside, you may just be able to switch valves without lifting the boat out of the water. If the fitting is plugged what do you have to lose?
