Sea Temperature guage

The sea temperature gauge in my Raymarine Tridata suddenly jumped up 25 degrees after years of reliable service. I went into the calibrate mode and can't calibrate it back to the correct temperature. Anyone ever had this problem? Should I suspect the sending unit or the Tridata head?

check your connections in the wireing they may be breaking down.....

The sensor is a simple thermistor. Changes it's resistance with change in temp. If you add some resistance to the wiring with (Gasp! it can't be, not on MY boat) corroded connectors then the total resistance of wire and sensor is interpreted as a new temp. Since the sensor is sealed and the wires probably make a non connector/splice route to the back of the sensor head I'm thinking a look behind the head and check for corroded terminals is in order.
99.44% of all electrical problems on boats is corroded connections

I think it is the transducer. It happened to mine and another sailor in the harbor within a couple of weeks. It has the same issue as yours, you cannot calibrate it. Ours reads about the same as a very hot bath water.

Good advice. I will check the connections when I have time to take the binnacle apart. It's a pretty involved job. Happy New Year,
