Stugeron

I read about this product called Stugeron. It was one of the few products that would reverse sickness fairly quickly. The person who wrote about it, had sailed the world and this was by far the best product they had found. You can not buy it in the US, but you can order it on line. I just bought some for my wife, I will let you know if it works. Greg

My wife swears by it. It, however does NOT "reverse" sea sickness. You must take it 1/2 hour before going out ( 2X15mg- dont getthe larger dose sizes they are for epilepsy) you can then top up every 5 or so hours. My wife tried everything else and nothing worked except Cinarizine(sp) which is what Stugeron is. No side effects after 3 years of taking it. Cheap and over the counter in UK, and other European countries.

I was going to mention Stugeron...

Read about it in an issue of Good Old Boat, but the author said it's not available in the US. The author said that the children's dose is really the perfect amount for most people.

Stugeron aka cinnarizine

This medication is available over the counter just about everywhere except in the US. I've seen boxes of it made in Belgium and others made in Mexico. As Richard Breyer mentioned, be aware that there are two formulas, Stugeron (15 mg per tablet) and Stugeron Forte, which I think is 75 mg. That's quite a difference. Since Stugeron an OTC medication, there shouldn't be any real danger, but it wouldn't hurt to read up on it first. Check for possible interactions, and if you're presently taking other kinds of medication, you may want to consult your doctor first. Peter H23 "Raven"

BSA Seabase in Florida suggest Bonine. Sold at WalMart, it is a chewable strawberry flavored tablet. It is suitable for kids and adults and the only medication permitted in BSA SCUBA programs. Bonine helped me on an offshore patch when the patch was useless. But for what its worth, my wife makes those cookies too! They're good! [from BSA Sea Base High Adventure Leaders Guide] Motion Sickness Crews will spend a great deal of time aboard boats, especially those in the sailing programs. Inevitably motion sickness will occur with some members. We recommend all crews carry Bonine® or Sea Bands®. Further, we suggest that your crew members check with their personal physicians regarding motion sickness medication. NOTE: Bonine® is the ONLY medication that is permitted in the SCUBA programs. Bonine® and Sea Bands® can be purchased in the Sea Base Ship’s Store. Boats do not return because of sea sickness.
