Can anyone give me advice on how to find accurate weather forecasts for the Sea of Cortez, particularly from Topolobampo to Guaymas/San Carlos? Thanks,Gary
We used NOAA during out trip and got weather faxes off sailmail. However, a SSB or HAM will allow you to get better forecasts from locals. I don't have any of the info handy with me now, but if you check out Latitude 38's website, there is probably some info. Also check out Gordon West's site. Good luck, Rick D.
The problem I have is to get the weather while I am in Tucson so that I will know before I head down to Topolobampo that I won't be facing a stiff NW wind in bringing the boat up to San Carlos. So I need to find the Sea of Cortez weather while in Tucson. Also, I have found that the weather on the Sea is no what is shown in the cities and therein lies the crux of the problem.Any other ideas?
Gordon West is an electronics expert, columnist and runs a HAM school. The link is below. I once found a site where Gondon's articles were published, but I guess that one is not it. Rick D.
These are ham nets that give actual conditions in the Sea. Times are Zulu, Frequencies are kHz.1400 3968 LSB Sonrisa Net1530 7294 LSB Chubasco Net1600 7238 LSB Baja Net1900 14.340 USB Mañana NetThese are specific to the SOC. There are other SSB maritime nets for the SOC that are marine SSB.
